Great quote turned bad amica homeowners insurance

I was given a quote for a platinum policy of 1670$ a year, and then amica issued a freeze on policies due to superstorm sandy, when it was lifted my quote rose to 2109.00, a hike of over 400$, they said it was because rates went up in November. Well how can that be? Shouldn't my original quote be honored? It was there fault I couldn't get underwriting in October, not mine. Is this legal to do to a customer, it didn't make sense.i am wondering if this is a lie, or due to the storms in. Y area, I feel misled, thinking I got a better deal then my old insurance, it just seems 2109 is a lot for insurance especially that values of property have dived.

I work on Amica’s social media team and would like someone to take a look at this for you. Would you mind sending your contact information to socialmedia@***.com so we can review your quote and get in touch with you?

Thanks! -LM

Amica insurance misleading (i'm being nice)

Amica jerked around a Friend who I recommended to them for homeowner's insurance. Amica's website said that they do not require social security number or birthdate for homeowner's application. As it turns out, Amica is not to be trusted. I always suspected they used your credit report to determine homeowner's rates because when I had identity theft my rates soared. I called them in the past to say don't use my credit report because I am an identity theft victim. Well, they just denied they used my credit rating (which was messed up because of the identity theft). The point is that they do use your credit score and if it's a wrong score that did not matter to them. Why? Because Amica was looking for a way to jack up the homeowner rates to increase their profits. Since they jerked my friend around by insisting on getting their social security number and birthdate, despite what they say on their website, I am going to just be silly and pull my business. They count on you not being silly. But, who cares. Silly feels good and right. Amica won't be missing me, but I won't be missing them either. Amica believes their own PR. Tread carefully around this company fellow homeowners. (I am going to save a bundle not buying into their hype).

Amica added an unrelated person to my policy against my wishes

I recently received a call from Amica, stating that there was an urgent matter to respond to. I called to have a customer service rep tell me that Amica was informed by the DMV that there was an undergage person living with me. I explained that this person is my girlfriend's adult daughter who had stayed with us for a couple of months. Apparently she renewed her license while she was there. So I'm stating to them that 1. this person does not live with me 2. does not drive my vehicles 3. is unrelated to me Well the customer service manager refused to accept a statement from me, and decided to stop lying about the DMV contacting them. Turns out they pay a third party company to look for these "opportunities" to fleece good customers. I was shocked. After being an accident and claim free customer for 10 yrs I was treated like a common criminal attempting to defraud the company. When I explained to this manager that adding this person to my policy without my permission would force me to find another insurer for all FIVE of my policies, her response was "that's fine". I recently received a letter confirming that this person (who I barely know) was added to my auto insurance policy costing me an additional $400.

Amica, managers withholding info

I have Amica auto/home insurance. I have recently filed a claim on my homeowner's insurance. This has been one of the worst experiences that I have ever dealt with. 2 local branch employees as well 1 corporate employee will not tell me how to get a hold of the Office of the President or their Executive Customer Relations to file a formal complaint against their disservice to me as a customer. They keep bouncing me around so that I cannot file a complaint against them. I a now going to leave Amica because of these 3 individuals and I would like the top level people to understand why I am leaving. I have asked for someone from their Office of The President or Executive Customer Relations contact me directly several times with no luck.

contact your state insurance dept. and file a complaint they can also tell you who heads up the company.

I can assure you that if you are persistent they will be more apt to assist you. if you call on a regular basis and ask for the CEO I have found that they will run like scared children to try and resolve the issue.

I was told by the SR AVP of underwriting (Ms.

Charles) have been told they that they are reprimanded if they give the information our re the ceo. If you dont hear anything I am sure their board of directors would like to know this information - I believe you should be able to pull information from their annual report.

AVOID AMICA INSURANCE AT ALL COSTS

My car got rammed from behind in a parking lot while I was barely moving. The woman flew out of her parking spot behind me without looking, put a minor nick in my bumper but TOTALLED the entire passenger side of her car. I called Amica, told them what had happened, and asked what else they needed from me in order to ensure my side of the story was adequately documented and they said 'someone will call you'. Noone ever called, they went to arbitration without notifying me, and a *** at the company represented in the arbitration a story that was THE OPPOSITE of what happened. Amica lost the arbitration, notified me my rates will likely go up, and when I wrote to the President of the company personally, someone called me to say 'we got your letter'. They then called back to confirm yes in fact your rates are likely going to go up. Absolutely Appalling. I am yanking 4 different policies from them. STAY AWAY FROM AMICA . If you are currently an Amica customer I URGE YOU TO SWITCH COMPANIES. DON"T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Funny that you guys cannot imagine that it is true.

I trust that for the only reason that same thing happened to me !

A simple scheme and 2 neurons are enough to understand how it can happen.

But anyway, it is almost impossible to prove who is telling the truth so they consider the bumper has caused the damages......

Get embedded cameras .....

#460850

You were backing up so you are at fault if she was an angle behind you, you should have seen her.

#447686

I wasn't anywhere near her car. There was nothing anywhere near my car .

I actually wasn't even really moving when she hit me because i was backing up literally inch by inch because I was so traumatized by seeing a little kid in the lot 2 minutes before. She was parked way behind me and on a diagonal. When I described it to my local auto guy to ask him about it he said it must have been the angle at which she backed out of her spot. And FYI, three people at Amica including 2 Vice Presidents have admitted complete and 100% responsibility at screwing up my claim.

They are in the midst of trying to figure out how to compensate me financially or otherwise for how egregiously poorly (their words not mine) my situation was handled. Hope that is helpful info to those interested.

#447484

I have used Amica for years. They have always been fantastic when I have needed them.

My daughter was away at school and had a computer stolen when her apartment was burgled. They immediately covered the loss under my homeowners insurance with no arguments.

I have also been in an accident which was my fault. They covered everything right away and no, my insurance rates did not go up.

#416725

Wow. I've had AMICA car insurance for over 20 years and they have always been very fair in handling my claims. I guess anyone can drop the ball now and again, but I highly recommend this company all the time.

#414379

You say your car was "rammed" but you have a minor nick on your bumper? The other car was behind you and totalled their passenger side?

I'm no rocket scientist, but looks like you backed up into the side of the ladys car.

Your story does not add up. What car goes sideways?

Refused to resolve claim

Update by user Dec 22, 2011

I was able to discuss this issue further with Amica, and was able to resolve the issue to my satisfaction. I would like to remove this review, as they have resolved my outstanding issues.

Thank you very much

Original review posted by user Dec 21, 2011
Amica is terrible at resolving claims. I have a claim into Amica, which they refuse to pay, even though they were at fault. I have a statement from the other driver saying that it was her fault. My car was hit by the insured. Everything is in line for them to pay for the damages to my car, yet they still refuse. I would never do business with Amica and I strongly suggest everyone else do the same. I was attacked and hung up on by Frank Carnevale, one of the senior supervisors at Amica. He would not listen to my call or give me an avenue to submit a statement which I have. I will be involving my lawyers to resolve the issue, but it should not reach that point to resolve a simple claim.

From the story it doesn't sound like this person is a customer of Amica (not insured by Amica) but instead had an accident with someone who is insured by Amica and he is not pleased with the negotiations for the settlement. This is odd because normally your own insurance company handles these details with the other insurance company.

#398139

Get use to it because this is the "new" way all insurance companies are treating their customers because "there is no law to deny coverage" and it'll cost you $$$ just to get what you should be entitled to in the first place. It's all of the insurance companies INCLUDING health care.

I've fought with several over the past 15 years and won every time BUT you should not have to do that.

Also don't forget to file complaints with your State Insurance Dept. because otherwise they won't know. If they get enough complaints maybe a class action law suit is in order. If you think they defrauded you by not providing what's in your insurance contract file a complaint with your State Attny.

General too.

AND never consider an insurance adjuster to be looking out for you, they're not !!! That's because they get their raises by how much $$$ they save their company and don't give a rats *** about you so get over it.

New AMICA Insurance Victim

Just switched to AMICA in Sept/2011. They gave me a fabulous quote for home and auto. The dwelling replacement cost they quoted me was $272K at 130% replacement, which was right in line with other companies I contacted for quotes. Once I signed with AMICA, I elected to have EFT from my credit card. After the first premium payment, I received a call from the agent who signed me up stating, the corporate office reviewed my coverage and based on the exterior inspection they need to increase my replacement cost to $324K in order to qualify for the 130% replacement. This is just another "bait and switch" rip-off corporation, big business who thinks they can manipulate the consumer at will. It's time for Americans to fight back! There should be a movement to "Occupy Insurances".

Just experienced the same "bait & switch" tactic with Amica after moving both my home and auto (30+ yrs with Geico) insurance in June/2012 to them and less than 30 days later contacted by the agent after the inspection who signed me up stating, the corporate office reviewed my coverage and based on the exterior inspection they need to significantly increase my replacement cost and premiums. Thoroughly disappointed with Amica & only wish I had seen this post b4 making the switch. But like you, I'm shouting from the rooftop to warn others here and on my social & professional networks.

AMICA Insurance Credit Rating Rip-off

When renewing my Auto policy with AMICA, I was charged substantially more than the previous year. I called an agent and asked why my premium had increased. It turned out that AMICA was now using one's credit score in rating policies. As I had no late payments, was using less than 30% on my available credit, and paying my credit cards off in full each month, I asked why my credit score as less than outstanding. They would not divulge how they scored or what the minimum credit score was for the lowest premium. My continuing monthly payments were for a mortgage and a car only, and total payments were below 30% of my monthly income. In 20+ years with them, I has one claim when my car was vandalized and windows were broken. After my non-payment of the new higher premium, they continued to harass me multiple times for weeks later for details of my new policy. I was dropped by them in the 1980's for Home insurance when my wife started a home daycare. They did not want to assume the risk. We replaced their policy with a better one at less cost.

All I can recommend is talk to family and friends and get as many quotes as you can. Online reviews such as this one can highlight bad companies with specific facts but there are too many trolls who post for positive reviews because a company gives them an incentive.

#369958

I agree the description about insurance: "the only product that automatically goes away when you need it." But I have to pay insurance for my auto and home. I'm looking for a good insurance company. Please let me know if you know one...

#324536

Typical amica-= a *** company- i was with them for 16 years- no claims=huge policy increase; i wrote to their ceo- demucio- never heard back

now with a much better company; I should have left them years ago- how did I know? They DO NOT deserve their high ratings

#321273

Did you take a look at your renewal paperwork? The reasoning behind the credit scores and how it affected your premium should be located in the booklet.

Most insurance companies use credit as a rating factor unfortunately. Amica is just up front about it.

Amica Auto Insurance increases

I have had Amica auto and house insurance for 56 Years and have had sustainable increases over the years. This year I had a speeding violation in a speed trap in Virginia at the Chesapeake Bridge Tunnel and was fined $150 for the ticket which I paid. The violation was relayed to Amica insurance company in Michigan. Amica increased my insurance by $889, a 53% increase. I called the company, spoke to the head of underwriters, and was told the increase was because of this ticket, my second speed trap ticket in 60 years, not a bad record. I am looking for another company.

To Kevin, the *** that claims "slow don't and you won't see such an increase": do everyone a favor and keep your drivel to yourself. 1 ticket leading to a 53% increase, and you think that's normal? You either work for Amica or are just, as I said before, a ***!

They want to pay $1600 for a car worth $4,377 and made the same deduction twice.

After a hit and run the insurance never checked to see if the police had captured the responsible party, they estimated the value of the car as $4,377 deducted previous damages to the vehicle for 855 dollars which they deducted twice plus other deductions made by them they estimated that I would only get $1672 if I kept the salvage vehicle and $1979 if I didn't a 4 dollar difference. I wonder how many times they get away with deducting the same item twice and not paying for what the car is actual worth. I will be looking for a new insurance very soon.

I just had the same problem with Allstate & Motorist Insurance. They use this piece of *** Auto Source program that does not have a clue about car prices.

I just lost appox 3k on a deal that was the fault of the other driver.

Insurance is a scam all the way around. They all are the best until it comes time to settle.

I am an insurance broker in NY. Unfortunately all insurance carriers would do the same thing.

They want proof that a driver is out of the household such as a utility bill or a copy of an insurance policy that would show that she is insured and lives elsewhere. There are people who hide drivers because their presence drive up their rates so the insurance companies are hard nosed when it comes to this situation
