Declining customer service
For over 25 years, I have been a satisfied customer of Amica Mutual Insurance...until now! I have two issues:
1) My daughter was involved in a MVA (auto/cyclist) 2 years ago.
I tried to light a fire under Amica's representatives, but they were moving at their own pace. During the process, I offered my own insight, but Amica did things their own way. Well now the other party who happens to have multiple sclerosis and "used to participate in triathlons" has hired a top gun law firm and claims a host of medical issues. Really??????????????
I want to be kept abreast of Amica's strategy and yes, I KNOW THAT I'M NOT AMICA'S ONLY CLIENT!
2) Recently , I decided to buy a house. Settlement was to be on September 30th so I called Amica for a quote. I spoke with a client "specialist" named Andrew and it was like talking to a chatbot. He wasn't listening to what I wanted but what Amica was going to provide.
As things went South, Andrew also added that I would have to provide a home inspection report at my cost. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS BEFORE. I contacted my real estate agent and my settlement clerk. They were taken aback as they too have never dealt with this saying, " Insurance companies do their own inspections, customers are never asked for a report." When I spoke to Andrew again, he again asked for a report and deflecting when I asked for insurance to cover the mortgage.
I left him with if I needed Amica that I would call back. He tried calling me back and I didn't bother to return his calls as I was done with him. Imagine my surprise when I received a message on my answering machine from an Amica representative wanting information on my move to update my automobile policy. Let's be clear, I have yet to move!!!!!
It's pretty damned presumptuous of Amica to behave in this manner, and I intend to reach out to the New Jersey Insurance Commissioner's Office regarding these issues. You had better hope that I cannot give my input to JD Power regarding your performance !
User's recommendation: check insurance industry ratings. Amica used to be a superb insurance company but apparently has gotten to big to care for individual policy holders!

Verified Reviewer | Pueblo, ColoradoPatrontizing, arbitrary customer service
We have been with Amica for a long time and they have generally been pretty good on any claims we have had. But this last billing cycle, we received a letter stating "you have not received the best possible insurance rate because we see there have been inquiries into your credit." Not only is this not relevant, but also not true.
When delving into it further, Amica gave us about 8 different reasons for this arbitrary premise. It included such ridiculousness as "your credit score is not perfect. It's not based on any credit score company, it's Amica's own credit rating." Since I own about $2 million in unencumbered assets, this is highly offensive.
They then launched into several other excuses such as "we received reports that your mileage isn't what we thought it would be" and "there are more than 400 points that we consider in offering rates." (but could not share a list of those). Not a way to treat a long time good customer.

Verified Reviewer | Albany, OregonHorrible Experience!
The situation with Amica has improved, but not to the point where I feel comfortable going forward. Thus, I'm evaluating 2 other providers who appear promising. Though I'm being cautious before committing so to avoid a repeat experience.

Insurance Expert Talks
Has been a very frustrating and disappointing experience
The review of Amica was the first I've given for a service or product. And I'm open minded enough to say that the experience I've had may not necessarily reflect that of others.
Which I hope is the case.I filed a pretty straightforward renter's insurance property claim in Dec 2018....Its now the middle of Feb 2019 and it still hasn't been resolved. At this point I have provided a recorded interview at my home, as well as submitted to a 3-4 hour long Examination Under Oath with an attorney representing Amica. I provided a police report as well as photos and/or serial numbers of the items that were being claimed. I have provided any and all information Amica has asked of me. This was the first insurance claim I've made, so maybe it was due to being naive about insurance.
It took me a while to realize Amica was accusing me of some type of fraud. Other than because the claim was made on a new policy, I'm not really sure what their reasoning has been for what has gone on. That's been the closest to an explanation I've gotten from them.Communication from the claims adjuster was almost non-existent. The adjuster was intentionally putting me off and what little information that was provided to me was directly untruthful.
When I say that I mean the adjuster directly lied to me about what was going on with the claim. I have it in writing.Although I had such a hard time getting any information from anyone, I was contacted by 3 different people when it came time to notify me of the EUO requirement. It's not that I don't understand them needing to be thorough, or that I don't see how it would cause a second look being that the policy was new.....I do. I've cooperated and provided anything they've asked for.
Even the metadata for the photos of my property. It would be a little more understandable if it were involving some type of big inflated claim, but I think the total of my claim is approx $5,000.There was a whole house of property such as a computer/laptop, video game console, surround sound system, large flat screen tvs, a whole collection of collector glass. Anyway, after I wrote the original review, someone with Amica posted for me to contact them about the situation....I did, but never heard anything more from them.....
